Biography

I am passionate about nature and am committed to sharing a vision of its preservation through my design work.

All my life, I have spent time in a wood shop. My dad would wheel me around his shop on the dolly when I could barely walk. It was at a young age that I started coming up with an idea and then building it. I would always make miscellaneous things around the shop. Although they were in practically useless, they gave me an opportunity to develop something I pictured in my head, and that is what is truly inspiring.  I have learned a great deal over the years helping my dad on a variety of projects, including building custom plastic laminate countertops. I strive for a sense of accomplishment in many areas of life.

I received a BA in Sustainable Structures from Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado. This was a Non-NAAB accredited architectural program, but I was drawn to the school’s environment and the idea of learning more about green design and construction. Throughout my college experience, I worked on various construction projects that ranged from setting concrete forms to framing houses. A 2-summer internship with a commercial design firm in Dallas,  Jones Commercial Interiors, allowed me to see my education come to fruition while expanding my knowledge of the business aspects of the design profession.

With an emphatic draw to residential design rather than commercial design, I was hired shortly after graduating college by a residential architect in Boulder, CO Jeffery K. Abrams Architect, P.C. I learned a great deal during my term of employment and further refined my design and drafting skills. Due to the nature of the economy and the onset of the housing collapse, I reached out and found an opportunity with a commercial architecture firm.

During my employment at MAH Architectural Group, I had the opportunity  of being the manager on projects ranging from small tenant improvement project to large restaurant, bar, and bowling venues. The larger projects were located across the country, further developing my communication skills and broadening my knowledge of building plan reviewers. Residential projects in the past two years have provided a good change of pace and design parameters. I have developed a great understanding of building codes and the various jurisdictions’ interpretations of the code. As a result, I have gained a greater respect for commercial architecture and have expanded my personal design styles.

While working with the WORKSHOP8 team I had the chance to work with amazing designers and clients to create multi-family, single family, and tenant improvement projects. It was a great experience working with low income multi-family developers such as Denver Housing Authority and Longmont Housing Authority.

Spending a year with Gerou and Associates, Ltd. gave me a new perspective of leadership of the profession while working with Phil and Cheri Gerou both being honored as Fellows of the American Institute of Architects. We focus on Residential, Commercial, and Hospitality projects.

I have recently been hired by VEGA Architecture as a Project Architect.
